South Coast Cottage

Our newest offering consists of an intimate self-contained accommodation on Maine's glorious South Coast in Wells Beach, five minutes from Ogunquit, the quintessential coastal town.

The South Coast Cottage, once the post office of nearby Moody Beach, is now part of a 57-unit cottage colony spread over six acres between the antique row of Route One and the ocean. The sloping grounds and generous lawn fronting this accommodation ensures a year-round set-back view of the salt marsh, the Ogunquit River, Wells Beach, and the ocean.

We renovated upon what was an architecturally unremarkable white clapboard cottage into interior space that we believe is chic and fun. It is small but handsomely furnished to make your stay memorable and amenity-rich. This is a smoke-free cottage designed for a couple only. While children are present in the two bedroom cottages across the complex, our accommodation is best appreciated by adults.

The new kitchen marries corn silk yellow and white with tile of the same tones. The white cabinetry and appliances are set off by yellow furnishings to make this a true Maine cottage flavor. Familiar names, like those in your own home are provided: a handmade English Dualit toaster, a cook's choice KitchenAid mixer, a colorful Waring blender for splashy summer iced drinks, Chantel pots and pans, and other comforts to make your housekeeping cottage a pleasure. You're not roughing it at camp here with a dishwasher, microwave oven, gas stove with traditional oven, and partially stocked refrigerator. A breakfast bar with coffeemaker separates the kitchen from the living/sleeping area.

Off the kitchen is a three-quarter bath softly toned in beige marble with Kohler fixtures and a shower. We've installed an instant hot water heater so you're never waiting for hot water from a tank again, and like our main Portland inn we use plush Ralph Lauren towels.

The bedroom is your living room where a day bed doubling as a sofa converts to a queen bed with its trundle mattress. The cable TV swivels nicely for use in the bedroom or while you're entertaining in the kitchen. We stocked the cottage with CDs and a small collection of movies for the VCR. You can hook up on the internet or send a fax too. The original knotty pine walls have been preserved in the living room as they convey much of the rich historical patina this cottage enjoys.

Fronting the living room is a screened-in porch where a refreshing ocean breeze wafts over the 112sf deck. We've placed a gas grill there for you too.

Our ownership in the colony entitles you to use of the outdoor pool, the whirlpool, basketball court, shuffleboard, or laundry room. We have one dedicated parking space and you'll find this location convenient for exploring the South Coast.

The cottage colony, now known as Water Crest Condominiums, is walking distance to a steakhouse, a doughnut shop that's a local landmark, and is a half mile to a major grocery store among other retail shops and services. Ogunquit center, Perkins Cove, and the new Amtrak Station lie five minutes away by car.
